I chose this organization for my Bar Mitzvah Project because I have a passion for playing soccer. I believe that people all around the world should have the opportunity to learn the world's beautiful game. Soccer without Borders has found ways to use this wonderful game to help young people develop in so many different areas.

About Ethan Monday's Bar Mitzvah Project

The location that I chose specifically to help was Uganda in Africa because this year in school we learned about the Lost Boys of Sudan which led the school to raise money for water filters for people in Kenya. I learned a lot about how people live in different parts of Africa. This inspired me to have my Bar Mitzvah project combine helping others in Africa and my passion for soccer. Soccer without Borders uses soccer as the base for helping young refugees work towards more education, gives them a sense of community and helps them develop life skills. I also chose my goal dollar amount to be a multiple of 18 because in Jewish tradition, the number 18 symbolizes “chai,” Hebrew for “life.” Giving an amount that's a multiple of 18 is considered good luck and is often used in gift giving.
