Creating Belonging for Boston's Newly Arrived Unhoused Migrant Community

Muriel Mena / Playing For Change Supporting SWB Massachusetts

In partnership with Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, Soccer Without Borders Massachusetts is looking to fundraise to begin a new program that seeks to serve newly arrived migrants that are currently living in Boston's homeless shelters. With the influx of migrants moving to the city, resources are extremely limited for this population. Life in the shelter is very challenging and isolating, especially for newcomers who have yet to learn English, are unable to work for several months due to long immigration processing wait times.

Many of these new arrivals are young people who are simply focused on surviving. Our goal is to help these youth and young adults do more than just survive-- we want to see them thrive. Creating this program is just the start of our journey to do just that.
