Soccer Without Borders uses soccer as a tool to provide newcomer youth opportunities to succeed. Many of these kids are unaccompanied minors and refugees from war-torn countries. The soccer field is one of the few places that feels familiar to them – where they immediately feel confident, valued, and able to freely express themselves. When they first come to the US, many kids feel overwhelmed, helpless, and alone in almost every aspect of life. Too often this leads to unhealthy behaviors. Soccer can reach these young people in a way that no other activity can.

Last year, SWB hosted some Mill Valley teams in Oakland for a fun day of soccer and international food. Players also teamed up for beach soccer at Stinson in spring. This year we hope to create many more opportunities for MVSC and SWB players to meet and play together, both on the field and off. Our immediate goal is to help SWB raise funds to acquire a 8-passenger van for transporting their players to games and events. Transportation is the single biggest barrier preventing newcomer youth, particularly girls, from accessing positive after school programming.
