Coach Carlos Ultramarathon For Change

Carlos Cazares / Playing For Change Supporting SWB Oakland

On September 28, I (Coach Carlos) will be participating in an Ultramarathon race to fundraise and to continue to support the program Soccer Without Borders has created. Soccer Without Borders helps newcomers to this country such as: immigrants, refugees, and unaccompanied minors. SWB serves 2,800 immigrants and refugees from over 70 countries every year. SWB uses soccer as a positive vehicle in order to empower the youth by teaching them 5 rules that go beyond the sport. These rules are Have Fun, Practice English, Try Everything, Respect, and Safe Space. More importantly these rules create a culture that allows participants to better succeed and adapt in this country and allows them to feel welcome on an off the field.
My love for this sport and helping people has inspired me to join the SWB team as a head coach/mentor. I was taught early in life both the importance of acts of service and always remembering where I come from. Both my parents immigrated from Mexico and have embedded values in me in order to better succeed while helping others do the same.
By raising money, we are contributing the resources that are needed to continue building out the culture SWB has established for under-served youth. Let’s continue to promote a welcoming environment where these kids can grow on and off the field.
